rockedinashell:

I have sent my letter to urge Iranian authorities not to carry out Saeed’s execution. And you?

To Prime Minister Harper

I write to urge you to intervene on behalf of Saeed Malekpour, a Canadian resident sentenced to death in Iran.  Mr. Malekpour was sentenced to death after a trial in which he most likely did not have access to a lawyer.  A computer programmer, Mr. Malekpour had written a program for uploading photos to the Internet which was used by someone else to distribute pornography.  When visiting relatives in Iran in 2008, Mr. Malekpour was arrested and found guilty of “insulting and desecrating Islam.”
I appreciate the Canadian government’s strong stance against human rights violations in Iran and ask that you intervene diplomatically to save Mr. Malekpour’s life.
Respectfully […]
To Head of the Judiciary, Ayatollah Sadegh Larijani & Leader of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Sayed ‘Ali Khamenei
Your Excellency:
I am writing to urge you not to carry out the death sentence in the case of Saeed Malekpour.  Please release him immediately or bring him to trial in accordance with international fair trial standards.  Allegations of torture used to exact a confession from Mr. Malekpour necessitate an impartial review; this would violate Article 14 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) to which Iran is a state party.  Under international law, the death penalty can only be carried out for “the most serious crimes”, which must be “intentional crimes with lethal or other extremely grave consequences.”  However, Mr. Malekpour was sentenced to death for creating a computer program later used by another person without his knowledge to distribute offensive images.

I ask that Mr. Malekpour be granted access to a lawyer as well as any medical attention he requires.
Respectfully […]
